One of the key issues that we heard at the Youth Leaving Care Hearings in November is that many youth in care feel alone. They don’t have that important someone in their lives who loves them unconditionally. The isolation can be particularly acute when youth age out of care, starting at the age of 18. As one youth said, “To be on your own does not mean to be alone. But, for young people leaving care, it does.”On Monday, February 20th, Ontarians across the province will be celebrating Family Day. But, for the more than 8,300 children and youth who are connected to the child welfare system - what will the day mean to them? The youth team would like to encourage you to send the following Family Day e-card to the Premier or your local MPP to remind them that young people in and from care are family, too.
